About this blog

I'm a guy just trying to get back into cycling, and sharing this journey with the world. The way I'm getting back into cycling though is through agreeing to ride the 160km JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes in January 2013.

For me, this blog serves two purposes:
1. Keep me motivated and accountable to meeting my goals for the ride.
2. Help people who wish to support me through encouraging messages or donations do so! I need to achieve a level of donations before I can take part in the event, and I'm not going to get there alone!

If you wish to find out more around the JDRF, and what it means to have Type 1 Diabetes, go here

If you want to help me out by making a donation, go here.

In addition to blogging on my training progress and other related items, I will also be putting up my fundraising initiatives so keep your eyes peeled and come back often!

Thanks for reading.

In the beginning...

So, here's the thing.

I used to be an avid cyclist.  I was passionate about the sport - lived and breathed the bike.  There's always been the intention to get back into riding, but things have generally got in the way.  Now, however, I have thrown myself in the deep end and committed to riding 160km in January with a crew from work as part of the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes.  See the "About this Blog" section for more information and links on this.

This blog will be a record of my training, my trials and challenges, both on the bike and off the bike in raising the required funds, or balancing my work and personal lives to get the fitness I need to complete this ride with friends.  Starting tomorrow actually!

I'm currently sitting in the living room of two great friends in Brisbane, M & B, and B is letting me borrow his bike to go for a ride tomorrow with some other mates.  Just to add a bit of extra challenge to the whole thing, I'm riding into the city to meet up with three other mates for a morning ride.  Hopefully followed with a coffee or two somewhere in the sunshine.  Definitely a little nervous as I haven't really had a chance to do much riding over the past few months, but I'm always up for a challenge!  Although I'll be taking my Go Card so I can jump on a train home.  Realism has to come into this thing at some point.

Well that's all for tonight - if you've made it this far I hope you keep following my journey as I work towards being able to ride 160km!!

  1. If you're going to get up and go for such a long ride at 6am, I really think it's time you went to bed now! - M
